Daniel Fonseca

Originally from Portugal. Moved to the Netherlands to do my PhD on the protein folding in the lab of Professor Ineke Braakman at Utrecht University. In August 2018, I moved to Oxford to join the lab of Prof. Pedro Carvalho, where I am interested in understating how proteins transverse membranes on their way to degradation. My scientific career has focused in two questions: 1) how do newly made proteins assemble into functional products and 2) how do cellular factors assist and recognize errors during protein maturation, targeting the defective products for degradation. I have a broad interest in biology, but some other things that I like include: • Learning through podcasts • Growing plants • Climbing things, also as sport
